New Uses For Old Things

Home Tips & Tricks

We’re all about going green and re-using items you already own. Check out a few fun and interesting uses for items you may have thought of throwing out or didn’t know had a secondary function. Don’t send these items to the landfill just yet!

Planter Turned into a Side Table

If you’re an avid gardener, you may have a few extra planter pots around your home that you may no longer use. Why not try converting them into this unique side table? Find a sturdy piece of rounded glass to lay over top. This can be found at thrift shops, a garage sale or even have your local glass shop make one up for you. If you want to make the glass top permanent, be sure to secure it using some heavy duty epoxy. What a fun and inexpensive way to redecorate your bedroom or living room!

Oven Mitt Turned into a BBQ Utensil Holder

BBQ season is in full tow. This handy utensil holder made from an old oven mitt is just what every grill master needs. Simply toss all your required grilling tools into the mitt and hang over the side of your BBQ using the built-in hook. It’s a great way to keep your tools organized, at hands reach and even from getting too hot to handle. How many times have you accidentally left that pair of tongs too close to the heat, only to grab it and burn your hands? Use this oven mitt hack and you’ll never have that problem again. Happy grilling!

Colander Turned into an Ice Bucket

This “cool” secondary use for a household colander is something we can’t believe we never thought of oursevlves! Use your colander as an ice bucket at your next party, by placing over top of a bowl. Not only will your ice cubes last longer, but as they melt the water will drain instead of sitting in the water and turning to slush. Try this at your next gathering and let us know what you think?

Socks Turned into Windshield Wiper Protectors

Yes, winter is finally over and our fingers are crossed that we won’t have anymore snow. A bit of hail and rain however is more than likely in this city of ours during the summer months. With that in mind, we love this idea of using a pair of old socks (no holes!) and putting them over your windshield wipers to protect them from snow or ice build up. Simply remove the socks before heading off and save time by not having to scrape ice off of each wiper blade, or avoid the dreaded uneven wiper clean mid-drive. Genious! We are definitely trying this come winter!
