Try Panty Hose on your Power Mower
This is a true trick of the trade. Simply cut a few layers of pantyhose to the size of the air intake opening (carburetor intake horn) on your mower, and secure it with Saskatchewan Chrome (aka. Duct tape). This will protect the air intake from taking in any materials besides air, which will prevent clogging and keep your mower running smoothly. Make Homemade Lawn Cocktails
You will need a 10-20 gallon reservoir with a hose end sprayer so that every three weeks or so you can water your lawn with your special concoction. Now add one of the three following items:
- 12 ounce can of diet cola or beer
- 1 cup of corn syrup or molasses
- ½ cup of mouthwash
The sugar in the soft drink, beer and syrup stimulates microbes that help break up the soil. The alcohol in the beer and mouthwash kills bacteria and spores and helps fight off some pesky lawn pests. The final addition to any of these homemade brews is adding 1 cup of dishwashing liquid every time to help spread the solution, and it will help it stick to the blades of grass. Environmentally Friendly Organic Lawns
As you all know we are all about being environmentally friendly, so it makes sense that we would take this approach with our lawns as well. Did you know that the average lawn contains more pesticides per acre than a farm? Crazy!
Organic lawn care can tend to be more costly, but it’s well worth it as inorganic lawn care products contain harmful substances for your family and the environment. Organic lawn care is a combination of natural things such as manure and sewage sludge. We didn’t say this was going to be pretty. You can also leave your grass clippings behind, since they are mostly water they will decompose and add nutrients back to the soil.
