5 tips to keeping your closet organized.

Home Tips & Tricks

Closets come in all shapes and sizes; whether they are big or small, we've got you covered with some great tips to keep them organized!

Start Fresh

Step one is to start with a clean slate. Remove everything so you can see what you are working with. This also gives you the opportunity to go through all of your clothes, shoes, jewelry and accessories. As the organizational guru, Marie Kondo, always says, “does it spark joy”? Often we hold on to clothing for too long because of memories but if you haven’t worn those low-rise jeans in 10 years, it might be time to say goodbye.

Take your time when going through your items! Don’t rush this process because it might cause you to get rid of items you didn’t want to or keep items you don’t need. Always tackle organization with a clear mindset and lots of time to get through it.

Choose Your Season

Once you have purged your closet take a look and see if any items are seasonal (ie: winter jackets, summer dresses). If it's not in season then grab a storage container and put those items aside until they are needed. This will help free up some space in your closet!

Another benefit to storing seasonal clothing away is that when the weather does shift and you need to swap out your summer clothes for winter clothes, you are forced to clean out your closet. It’s a sneaky way to make sure that you are going through and cleaning out your items at least twice a year!

Fold What Can Be Folded

A great way to save space and keep your closet looking organized is by folding, rolling, and tucking away items that won’t wrinkle. Workout gear, cotton t-shirts, and cozy sweaters can easily be folded and placed in drawers or bins to help create more space for hanging items.

You can also get creative with how you store these folded items! Whether it’s in a dresser, decorative boxes, or installing shelves to help create more space.

Reach for the Top

Utilize all the space in your closet, including that top shelf! The top shelf is a great place for boxes, hats, purses, or other items that need their own space. Bathing suits can be placed in decorative boxes and put away until they are needed, other things such as seasonal items can be stored up top, or you can give your hats the display they deserve by filing them neatly up above.

Top Tip: For easier access make sure you have a stool or step close by to retrieve these items seamlessly.

Add Additional Hanging Space

Every closet is different and some might not have enough space for all of your clothes, even after you clean it out. For those of you that have a passion for fashion we recommend adding a hanging rack to create more space!

Hanging racks are a great way to show off special pieces that you love and want to keep out. Using it as a display rack, similar to designer stores, is a great way to show off your style and ensure those items are getting the spotlight they deserve.

Another way to utilize a hanging rack is by using it for longer or bulkier pieces that don’t fit as nicely in your closet. We all have items that don’t play well with others, whether it’s a long formal dress or puffy hiking vest, they still need a place to go. Using the hanging rack for these items will free up space in your closet and keep it looking organized.
