What Does Your Foyer Say About You?
They say first impressions are lasting impressions so it's important that the entry into your home is a positive and memorable experience for you and your guests. The foyer of your home gives us a glimpse into your unique personality and style, so you want to ensure it's anything but bland! With so many innovative ways to smarten up your foyer, we've put together some inspiration for you...
Frame it up
Isn't this a clever combination – bold, geometric wallpaper teamed with classically framed objects. In the first example, the homeowner has framed outgrown bathing suits in a simple, deep-set white frame. Personalize the frames to your life and frame an object from your childhood, travels or favorite hobby. Not only are these frames personalized and unique but we think they would make great gift ideas…
Play with scale
If you've got an entry way with high ceilings and open spaces, add one or two over-sized decorative accents which will stand out and provide the correct proportion to the room. Rather than filling the room with lots of small items, we recommend items such as tall vases, a large clock or a fabulous sculpture that will make a confident statement about your home and avoid a feeling of clutter.
Who is the fairest of them all?
Add the illusion of extra space and sophistication to your foyer with an over-sized mirror. Either free standing or placed on a table, the mirror not only adds dramatic effect but is also handy for a quick check on the way out the door!
Statement lighting
If you’re already happy with your home’s entrance but want to give it an extra “wow” factor then adding a statement piece of lighting often does the trick. According to Meredith Heron, principal designer of Meredith Heron Design, lighting solutions in 213 are illuminating a new way of thinking, “Traditional pendants have been side stepped in favour of over-sized statement lighting. Unique shapes and a mix of metals - anything goes so long as it has big impact.”
Storage is King
While it’s nice to focus purely on the aesthetic elements, sometimes we need to be practical and consider where we’re going to store gumboots, snow boots, sandals, tennis rackets and the rest! Fortunately, storage solutions have advanced significantly in the last decade with many designs now a beautiful combination of style and practicality.
Sit and be Still
A beautiful bench, retro stool or elegant armchair is another charming way of making a lasting statement about your home. If you have an existing armchair that's looking tired, consider reupholstering it with a bold new fabric. Another benefit of a chair in your entrance is that there's always somewhere to sit and slip on those winter boots and tie children's laces. Don't be afraid to mix and match fabric, texture and color palettes.
