Staff Favourites: Stampede Edition

Get to know us

1. Parade Day: It all kicks-off with Parade Day on Friday July 7th. We provide tickets to our staff and their families so that they can enjoy the parade. Attending it is one of the best ways to get into the Stampede spirit – and we look forward to Parade Day every year.

2. Pancakes: Everybody loves a pancake breakfast and the Excel team is no exception. One of our favourites is conveniently located just a few steps from our Calgary office at North Hill Mall. Come on down for pancakes, live music and pony rides. This year’s event will be held on Monday July 10th from 9:00 – 11:00 am.

3. Barrel Racing: Team Lead, Sales Administration and Market Intelligence Betty-Anne Smith’s favorite has always been the barrel racers. She says “It’s amazing to see how fast they can whip around those barrels. Ending the night at Nashville North is the only way to go – with a few midway treats on your way out, of course!”

4. Barbeque: “Sweet and smoky, tender and juicy – it’s all about the barbeque for this guy,” says Curt Woodhall, VP of Sales, Marketing & Product Development. “While I love to try all the new Stampede fare, I always save room for Gator’s ribs and brisket.”

5. Mini Doughnuts & Mutton Bustin: “I’m a sucker for mini doughnuts,” Janet Bonter – our awesome Excel Receptionist – says with pride. Sticking with the mini theme, she also loves Muttin Bustin. “Those adorable little kids, wearing hockey helmets and trying to ride sheep, gets me every time. It’s a total Stampede Classic!”

6. Ag-tivity in the City and Horse Haven: Jenn Fong, Marketing Specialist, is a Stampede expert, as she’s volunteered there in past years. She’s a huge fan of the Ag-tivity in the City and Horse Haven. “There are so many cute critters to pet, and a ton of interactive activities and demos for the kids to learn about agriculture and the rural lifestyle,” she says. “Think cow milking, rope making, light horse demos and seed planting. AND you can even get milk and cookies for a toonie!” Delicious, we’re in!

7. Weadickville: Another tip from Jenn, is to check out this hidden gem. Tucked away behind the Coca-Cola stage, next to the Big Four building, Wedickville has the cheapest food on the grounds. When you’re ready to escape the sun and eat some chow, grab a bite and hang out under one of the many trees.
