Incorporating Children Into Your Home Design

Home & Family

When deciding what changes you can make in your household to include your children, you should consider that they have two main domains - their bedrooms and their playroom. While this may sound limiting remember it can be for the greater good of the family unit. Why? Your house needs to be organized in order to be functional, and as a result you will have more time to spend with your family instead of cleaning up after them! The logic is that if you create spaces for your kids to flourish in; you will not be disappointed in what they create within it!

Their bedroom can be a positive and empowering area which encourages creativity, and allows the opportunity for them to own their space. The kids will be so proud when they get to start making decisions, and show their leadership on the design team! Get them to draw out a blueprint of the space and then they become the interior designer as well. The layout and the details will come from their ideas and dreams. You could really make this a fun learning activity by letting them choose the paint colour and furniture.

The playroom is the second space that the kids can dominate. The first step as the parent is to purchase bins and shelves, or maybe just a large door to conceal the mess! This allows the kids the opportunity to put away their toys and take pride in a clean room. To promote creativity, it is a good idea to have a station with a variety of materials (different shapes, textures, and sizes) that will let their imaginations to run free while making crafts. You can also have a wall of fame in the room where they can display their master pieces. Lots of development will be nourished here, and memories of play time will stay with them forever.

In the majority of Excel Show Homes you will notice that there is always a designated children’s space. Have you seen our army, space, car, and under the sea themed rooms.
