

Events Around Town: August 2016
GlobalFest Fireworks
It’s that time of year to grab your blankets and sit back and enjoy the firework displays. This year France, Thailand, Japan and Vietnam will be competing. GlobalFest starts on August 14th, with the finale happening on August 23rd. The shows take place in Elliston Park and tickets can be bought at Co-op in Marlborough Mall, London Drugs in all Southern Alberta locations or on the GlobalFest website.
Opera in the Village
It’s the second year that the East Village is hosting the Opera tent! Candide, Archiebaldo and Hansel and Gretel will be performing this year. The entertainment continues with singing contests, circus acts and the beer gardens. Opera in the Village will take place over two weekends: August 13-14 and August 20-21. Look into buying tickets for specific performances or weekend passes on the Calgary Opera website.
Yogathon
Join yogis in Calgary in the Third Annual Yogathon that includes 50 cities around the world. The event is organized to raise funds for Care for Children, which is a program that provides education to children living in rural India. The event takes place on Stephen Ave on August 16th and costs $25 to register. If you believe in staying fit and supporting a great cause check it out #RISEFORACAUSE
