Health and Safety Advisor

The Role:

This newly-created integral position is responsible for providing HSE support across all of our Alberta locations. Excel Homes is proudly COR certified and is seeking the right candidate to support, implement and maintain our safety programs. The right candidate is a progressive thinker with strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude. This key role will report to the Director, Human Resources and will work closely with operations, assisting, supporting, stewarding, and maintaining our programs that promote industry leading performance, while supporting the safe reliable and complaint operations of Excel Homes.

Key Functions:

  • Health and Safety Programs - Develop and support the occupational health and safety program and plans where Excel Homes is the prime contractor
  • Emergency Planning and Response – Assist with the assessment and roll out of emergency response exercises
  • Cost Management – ensure cost is a focus when planning work, training, projects and travel; provide stakeholders with financial impacts of health and safety projects in order to assist with annual budgeting
  • Employee Development – develop and execute a plan that promotes completion of annual goals, training and career development; maintain training plan/program as related to HSE
  • Strategic business plans – translate corporate and departmental strategies and initiatives into personal objectives that incorporate HSE excellence, career development and cost control
  • Operational Support – including delivery of appropriate training, lead incident investigations, regulatory compliance audits, coaching, work place inspections, reporting, monthly safety meetings, and JHSC coordination
  • Field representation – ensure up to 80% visibility with staff, travel required to Edmonton location
  • Anticipate, identify, evaluate and contribute to both proactive and reactive controls to mitigate risk
  • Provide Workers Compensation and rehabilitation support, advice and manage the process

Our Must Have’s

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must provide a driver’s transcript with a clean driving record
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in health and safety, including construction site experience
  • CRSP or NCSO designation
  • Excellent knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations in Health and Safety
