Employee Spotlight: Nathan Jervis, Sr. Site Superintendent

Posted October 4 By Excel Homes

As one of our Site Superintendents, Nathan's job is to ensure our houses and projects are on track and meet our strict deadlines. Since joining the team, he has proved that he has the ability to grow, while Excel is also expanding itself.

Nathan's quick wit and sharp sense of humour make him a joy to be around, as he helps bring humour to any and all situations.

1. How did you get into the home building industry?

By chance. After leaving Toronto and the Hudson Bay Company in 2005, I bought a one way plane ticket to Calgary. I had been here for just over a week, my cousin referred me to a coworker who was starting up a house prefabrication company. At the time I figured I had nothing to lose and dove in head first. After working a saw and a tape measure for nine months, I landed an interview with Landmark homes as a Site Superintendent and the rest is history.

2. How long you have been with Excel?

Just over three and a half years.

3. What is the most rewarding part of your position?

The most rewarding aspect of my position would be running into homeowners years after turning over their houses and hearing how happy they still are with their home. It keeps me coming back every day knowing the work that we do directly impacts people’s lives and provides a place where happy memories are made.

4. How do you enjoy spending your free time outside of work?

Spending time with my beautiful wife and daughter at the lake, travelling, and skiing. A round of golf here and there never hurt anyone either!

5. Where do you see yourself and/or Excel within the next year?

I look forward to continued growth with Excel as we pursue market share in multi family housing. It is truly exciting to be part of a new initiative within the company. So far it has been challenging to say the least, but also full of new relationships, obstacles, and successes.
