

Estimator
Location: Calgary

The Role
Working with the Calgary team, you will be responsible for job-specific budgeting, as well as model and option database maintenance and development.
The Responsibilities
- Assists in the solicitation of trades regarding bid invitations, pricing, addenda, and tender/bid closings
- Performs quantity take-offs for all areas of the estimate while ensuring the take-off is well notated for hand-over to the Project Manager
- Analyzes plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare bid estimates for projects, performs complete estimates
- Develops a schedule based upon the estimate by requesting input from the project team and the various trades required
- Interfaces and communicates effectively (written and oral) with the estimating team, with all levels of management, clients and industry
- contacts and develops business relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing within estimates
- Supports the presentation of estimate proposals
- Manages and provides input into estimating, costs, profitability, budget and risk management across multiple projects
- Supervises the solicitation of trades regarding bid invitations, pricing, addenda, and tender/bid closings
- Creates quantity take-offs for all areas of the estimate while ensuring the take-off is well notated for hand-over to the project team and includes safety and security requirements required by applicable legislation
- Analyzes plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare bid estimates for projects, performs complete estimates on selected projects consisting of project site visit, quantity take-off, pricing, and presentation of the estimate for management
- Applies knowledge and skills through the handling of complex problems and shares expertise with the estimating team in an ongoing effort to develop, recommend revisions and implement procedures, standards, rules and regulations
- Evaluates and presents or supports the presentation of estimate proposals
- Prepares conceptual estimates by interpreting historical data
- Oversees and manages selection and maintenance of subcontractors within a database
- Provides guidance for non-estimating personnel on their estimating related requirements
- Researches and analyzes cost data for review and presentation to management
- Explores future opportunities pursuant to the business plan, manages bids and leads the team in programming and pre-construction phases
- Prepares for and attends major trade pre-award meetings as required

- Superior organizational, project management and critical thinking skills
- Understanding of construction documents and the ability to assess their completeness
- Strong, clear, and precise, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, project deadlines and locations
- Ability to solve problems based on clearly defined procedures
- Capable of proactively participating in discussions, asking questions and thinking critically, ensuring understanding and providing
- Completion of post-secondary education with a degree related to Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Engineering or related education University Degree
Our ‘Must Haves’
- 3-5 years of experience working in the residential construction industry.
- Completion of post-secondary education with a degree or diploma related to Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Estimating,or Engineering
- Experience working in a collaborative, high-performance team environment
Bonus Points
- Exposure to commercial construction
- Experience with MS Excel, BuilderMT, and Bluebeam would be an asset
