Summer Loving

Home & Family

With summer officially here, it’s the best time of the year to get outdoors, bask in the sunshine and enjoy our favorite outdoor spaces in the home. However, after the long winter there is almost inevitably some work that needs to be done to freshen up our outdoor areas... now, where to start?

Today, we explore ways of embracing the outdoors in your home. Whether it’s bringing the outdoors indoors (see our Facebook post here) or getting crafty, there are plenty of unique ways to enjoy these warmer days without the expense often associated with a quick revamp!

  1. Mosquito BanFirst and foremost, before you can enjoy some uninterrupted time on your patio, balcony or yard you need to ensure that the mosquitoes are kept at bay. Buy some citronella candles or get crafty and make your own! If you decide to make your own, you can even personalize the scent and look of your candles too. We love this fantastic ‘how-to’ blog. Let us know if you try it!
  2. Terracotta TransformationRelease the artist in you and transform plain terracotta pots into works of art. Do it yourself or get the kids involved too, this site showcases some truly unique and beautiful ways of transforming plain pots into stunning features for your garden, home or even your work space. Pin your favorite ideas to your Pinterest like we did, or share your transformations with us on Facebook
  3. Chairway to HeavenNow that your outdoor space is brightened up and bug free, you need somewhere nice to sit and enjoy it! Rather than buying a pricey new set of chairs, how about trying your luck at refurbishing those rusty outdoor chairs? Here you will find a straight-forward video on how to restore the chairs and give them a second chance! Not only will you be able to show off your refurbished prowess to your friends, you'll know that you've added a new skill to your Do-It-Yourself tool belt.

If you’ve been crafty this summer, post your creations and renovations with a short blurb on our Facebook page for a chance to win some handy gift cards from the team at Excel Homes.
