Message from the President: Reflecting on 25 Years

2013 marks Excel’s 25th year of building homes for families in and around Calgary. A major milestone like this provides an opportunity to take stock of what we’ve accomplished so far.

To date we’ve applied for building permits on over 9,6 single family homes. We anticipate hitting the 1, mark late this year or early next. In January 27 we began certifying all of our homes as registered Built Green homes, bringing Excel’s total over 2.2 Built Green® homes. This means that each home is built to a pre-established checklist, modeled and blower-door tested, resulting in a performance level and EnerGuide rating for each home.

We are now building the largest range of home styles, in the greatest number of communities, in our 25 year history. Excel currently builds semi-detached homes, townhomes, homes without garages, homes with secondary suites, and homes with front garages. We have showhomes in 15 communities in Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane and Okotoks.

I am particularly proud of the people I work with at Excel. Over 25 years, we have evolved to a sophisticated organization staffed by professional, knowledgeable, capable and energetic people. In 212, among 149 North American builders (whose 76,5 homeowners were surveyed by Eliant, a third party customer satisfaction measurement company), Excel has the 4th highest level of homeowners referred by others to build with Excel.

It’s easy to talk about the numbers. Our homeowners will take possession of over 5 homes this year, roughly 2 homes every single working day. In order to do this, our focus is on each individual family or homeowner who purchases one of our homes. A structured process of meetings, documentation, information sessions and walk-through’s ensures that each purchaser receives the same consistent experience.
