Excel's Built Green Homes: The Health Benefits

Sustainability & Wellness

When it comes to owning a home, it’s fair to say that many of us aren't aware of the harmful chemicals we inhale everyday as a result of the various materials used to build the home. Did you know that homes are often built with materials containing a high formaldehyde and VOC content?

If you or someone in your family has an immune or respiratory weakness, the fact that you’re breathing in these harmful chemicals within your own home isn't going to improve your short and long term health. You may also suffer from symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, sneezing, eye, nose and throat irritations which can also be caused by harmful airborne contaminants (VOCs and Formaldehyde) in your home's indoor air. But, when you purchase a home with Excel, you make the smart decision of providing a healthier environment for your family. How? Let us tell you!

All of Excel’s homes are designed and constructed using low-to-zero VOC and formaldehyde products. We use products that have less than 2g/litres of VOC. This means that all interior paints, carpets, finishings etc contain much smaller (or no) quantities of these damaging chemicals, thus considerably reducing the negative effects/stress on your body and respiratory system. Additionally, each Excel home also includes an active Heat Recovery Ventilator that draws in fresh, clean outdoor air and exhausts humid, stale and/or polluted air out of the home. Excess humidity can also pose a risk for structural damage in the home.

You can literally breathe easy knowing that the indoor air quality within your Excel home is significantly improved.

Another potential benefit of Excel's Built Green homes is a better night’s sleep. How? We install low-emissivity windows which better insulate the house. A better insulated house means a quieter house, so you can climb into bed knowing your peaceful sleep won’t be disrupted by so many noises.
