"A place for everything and everything in its place”

Charles A. Goodrich

Summer is a perfect time for reorganizing your garage! Garages are often the place where everyone in the family dumps anything they can’t find a home for. So wouldn’t it make sense to create a garage space where you’re able to find what you’re looking for quickly and easily, without all the frustration?

Here are our top tips for keeping your garage in tip top shape:

1. Seasonal stuff up high – you only reach for them once a year, so store them in a place that’s harder to reach. Shelving above the garage door is a great place for this, and you won’t even see the tubs if the garage door is open. The trick is to use all the wall and ceiling space you can, so the floor stays clutter free.

2. Designated places – If you have more than one article in a category then create a chosen space for these items. A sporting area would have a multitude of items from golf clubs to hockey tape. You are less likely to leave anything laying around, as there is a very specific place for everything.

3. Purge – Go through all your belongings and if you haven’t used them in a year, then consider getting rid of these items. You can sell the item, recycle it, or give it away to charities which are all great options. Before you put the item back in its place, make sure to give it a good clean. Another helpful tip is having a garbage bin that is handy on a day to day basis, so at any moment you can get rid of junk in the garage and cars before it collects.

4. Vertical space – this is a great way to optimize the surface area of the walls. There are lots of options in hanging items, so choose what works best for you. Rubbermaid tracks with attachments are a visually pleasing option. You can also draw outlines of hanging tools to know exactly where they go.
