The Calgary Stampede is the main headliner this month, but if you’re not into the rodeo, cowboys or pancake breakfasts, we’ve compiled a few other events you can attend instead.

Kensington Sun and Salsa Festival - July 2th

The annual Sun and Salsa Festival heats up Kensington on July 2th from 11am - 5pm. Head on down to this charming Calgary neighbourhood to enjoy a huge sampling of salsa recipes served up by the local Kensington merchants. Buy a bag of chips to help support two charities, the Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association and Norfolk Housing, and sample all of the free salsas! Don’t forget to vote for your favourite. There will be a wide variety of performers, street vendors and plenty of patios to sit and enjoy the sun. It’s sure to be a spicy-good time! For more information check out VisitKensington.com

Calgary Folk Music Festival - July 24 – 27th

For you music buffs, there is the annual Calgary Folk Music Festival which will feature 65 artists of different genres and 1 unique performances on seven stages at Prince’s Island Park. Artists this year include the likes of Bruce Cockburn, Amos Lee, Jill Barber, and Patti Griffin. There will also be an art market, a global village of food, and theatre performances throughout. Taste of Okotoks – July 26th

Consider yourself a foodie? Head on down if you live in the area or take a short family road trip just 15 minutes south of Calgary to the streets of Olde Towne Okotoks for Taste of Okotoks. There will be plenty of amazing food, drinks, live music, artists, as well as hundreds of artisans & boutique business vendors on site. Avenue Q Musical - June 26 – August 21st

Get your laugh-on this month with the must-see, hilarious Tony Award winning musical Avenue Q. Featuring an ensemble of puppets (sorry kids, grown ups only!), see them navigate their way through life in New York City. It’s a classic tale of transitioning into adulthood told through the eyes of a recent Princeton college grad and the new-found friends he meets along the way. Sesame Street it is NOT, but full of laughs it IS! This musical production is put on by Stage West Calgary and includes a buffet meal (evenings) or brunch (Sundays only). Prices range from $69 to $15.
