Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane Extreme Kitchen Makeover

Giving back to the communities we build in is extremely important at Excel. Our most recent project was building the Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane & Area (BGCCA) a brand new kitchen and bathroom. It took five days, 1 volunteers and over 2, hours of labour. The result? Some of the brightest and most appreciative smiles we’ve ever seen.

Out With the Old

Each year the BGCCA runs hundreds of hours of children and youth programming, and in 214 prepared 68, snacks and thousands of hot meals in a small, aging galley style kitchen. It was time for a change. As a working kitchen is fundamental to the club, we couldn’t afford much down time for renovations. So we called upon our suppliers, tradespeople, contractors and staff to volunteer their time. Demolition began on the evening of Thursday February 19, and we completed final touch-ups and cleanup on Monday February 23. It was a weekend of hard and rewarding work for an amazing cause.

In With the New

In less than five full days, the kitchen and bathroom areas were expanded by fifty square feet and made wheel chair accessible. After completely gutting the space new wiring and plumbing was installed. The sleek renovated kitchen includes new flooring and lighting, new cabinets and countertops and a new appliance package with side-by-side fridge, standalone freezer, oven and dishwasher. Plenty of countertop space and an eating bar allows for convenient meal preparation and serving.
