Back to School – Researching Schools in Your New Neighbourhood

Home & Family

If you have children, or are planning on starting a family, schools are always top of mind when researching what greater Calgary neighborhood you want to buy a new house in. There are a couple of great online resources that you can use to help with your search.

Helpful Resources

To learn about Calgary’s school catchments use the find a school tool on the Calgary Board of Education’s website. The interactive search allows you to filter by school name, community, program (Montessori, French Bilingual, Arts-Centered, etc.) and grade. You’ll also find important information on registration dates, open house events and busing and transportation.

If you’re looking to buy a new home in Airdrie or Cochrane visit the Rocky View Schools’ website. You’ll find everything you need to know about attendance areas, transportation, school fees and calendars. Another helpful website is the Fraser Institute, which ranks schools using the results from provincially administered academic tests.

Community Schools

Many of the communities that Excel builds in have either built new schools, have future schools in the master plan or are in close proximity of existing schools. Heartland in Cochrane and Walden in South Calgary are great family focused communities that are close to a variety of amenities including elementary, middle and secondary schools. We’re also excited that construction for the new community school at Sunset Ridge in Cochrane will commence in March 216. Once open the K-Grade 8 school will welcome approximately 7 – 8 students.
